A split-type unit can be installed away from its dispensing tap, but the practical distance is determined by pipe diameter, insulation, water pressure, cooling capacity, and service access. There is no single maximum distance that suits every installation. Long runs should be engineered around the required outlet temperature, flow rate, and expected daily demand.

The first site check should confirm the route between the main unit and the tap. Measure the actual path, including vertical rises, turns, ceiling spaces, and areas exposed to heat. A straight-line measurement can significantly underestimate the final pipe length.

Long Lines Can Reduce Cooling Quality

Chilled water gains heat as it moves through the line. Insulation slows this heat gain, while uninsulated routes through warm utility rooms or ceiling voids can make the first pour less cold. Carbonation may then feel weaker because warm water cannot retain CO₂ as effectively.

Pressure Loss Must Be Tested at the Tap

Every meter of pipe, fitting, valve, and filter creates resistance. The pressure available at the main unit may not be the pressure available at the dispensing point. Flow testing at the final tap is therefore essential, especially for systems serving multiple outlets.

Split type installation distance should be reviewed alongside the expected pour rate. A long route may still work well for a low-use executive pantry but may be unsuitable for a busy restaurant station with repeated high-volume dispensing.

Plan Maintenance Before Closing the Ceiling

Remote systems need accessible valves, filter housings, gas connections, and drainage points. Hiding all components behind finished walls or ceilings can turn simple maintenance into a disruptive repair. Clear pipe labels also help service teams identify chilled, sparkling, and drainage lines correctly.
